Two Raffles Institution boys were attacked by another group of young people in Potong Pasir. Don Tan ,17 and Anand were attacked. Anand was stabbed while Don managed to flee.

These "gangsters" who did the stabbing should be punished severely. Since they behave like animals, they should be treated like animals. Let them go into the prison and get raped by other convicts.

RANT ABOUT STOMP

Anyway, I really detest STOMP.

STOMP is not doing society a favour because --

1. Stompers take snapshots/screenshots of teenagers' rants on Facebook and post them up on STOMP, a national gossip news website. This is very detrimental to the mental state of teenagers. At such a tender age, they might not be able to handle the attention and criticisms from STOMP netizens.

2. Stompers are self-righteous people who take photos of commuters who apparently don't give up priority seats. These Stompers assume a lot. Maybe these commuters are tired or sick? Or maybe these commuters honestly did not see the needy people?

3. Stompers are going for the $50 reward and they are willing to fake photos/stories or indiscriminately take secret photos of others.

4. Stompers make Singaporeans feel so scared and uptight whenever we're on public transport.

SUCKS.

Some people say that Jews, Muslims and Christians believe in the one same God.

I don't agree with that.

Although these 3 religions are related, all of them believe in very

different Gods. Let me show you why below --

Christians - Most Christians believe in a Trinity God, that is Father, Son and Holy Ghost are all God. To Christians, Jesus is God and also part of the Trinity God.

Muslims - Muslims believe in one God but not in the Trinity sense. The name of the Muslim God is Allah and Muslims do not believe that Jesus was God.

Jews - Jews also believe in one God but the name of the Jewish God is YHWH. Jews define their God very differently from the Muslim defintion too.

3 very similar religions but yet all 3 believe in different Gods.

No, it is not logical. No one goes around proving a negative.

No one in his right sanity goes around proving a negative.

There is no empirical evidence to start with. There is NOTHING to start with. So how we supposed to prove the non-existence of a negative?

Take for example a fairy.

Fairies have been mentioned in books, in many cultures and even believed and worshiped by people. Yet there is NOT a single shred of empirical evidence to prove that fairies exist.

So now, do we ask scientists to prove the non-existence of fairies?

How are we supposed to prove a negative when there's nothing there?

If someone claims he/she encountered a fairy, it is UP to the claimant to prove his/her claim. He/she should not be asking others to prove that fairies don't exist.

These few decades, we always hear of "muslim terrorists" or "islamic terrorists" in the media.

But we know that NOT all muslims are terrorists. Majority of the muslims in the world are moderate and peace-loving people.

And just a few days ago, we saw a different kind of terrorism. It is terrorism that is both religious and political. Anders Behring Breivik bombed a building in Oslo and went on a shooting spree to murder Labour Party youth members who were supportive of immigration.

Before he went on his rampage, he wrote that it was essential to "fight" for a "Judeo-Christian Europe", praised the rejection of "anti-Jewish views" and stated that "the new Conservatist ‘new right.." He also expressed some of his "extremist christian views" in the writings.

According to Reuters and the BBC, deputy police chief Roger Andresen described information found on Breivik's websites as "so to speak, Christian fundamentalist".

Yes there are terrorists in most religions (the extreme ones), and Christianity is no exception. They are called "christian terrorists" because they based their teachings on the bible, but with a lot of twisted interpretation.

Anders Behring Breivik is not the only extremist christian in the pages of history. There are many more such extremists who commit atrocities in the name of religion.

What is the lesson learnt here? Religion and belief is a personal thing and REAL, as much as the individual is concerned.

Fanciful lights and sound systems that can fetch up to $90,000 are a must in many Singapore churches nowadays.

The Straits Times ran an article "Not a preacher, but people treat him like one" about young religious people in Singapore and the article also highlighted the extravagant high life of one young christian preacher.

Singapore christians are catching up fast with the megachurch phenomenon in the USA. The preachers and pastors here are becoming "celebrity preachers" and living "cool" lifestyles to attract younger followers, just like their US counterparts.

I think it's ok to be rich and prosperous in whatever you do. But the problem here is, how can you ask your lower-income church members to tithe 10% of their low incomes monthly and then continue to take their money to fund your high life, your expensive cars and your condos?

Doesn't your conscience prick you when you preach about love and kindness?

And it's not just the megachurches. I personally know pastors from small churches in Singapore who own cars and stay in private estates.

Well, when you preach about love and kindness and you see this poor and elderly woman giving her 10% tithe monthly to your church, do you still have the heart to take her money?

When you preach about love and kindess and you see this poor mother struggling to support her 3 children tithing 10% of her little income, can you still bear to spend $90,000 on fanciful lights and sound systems for your church?

Just wondering : Where is the love?

Yes there are a lot of christian preachers in Singapore who live simple lives. But what about these preachers who lead high and expensive lives while their lower income members tithe?

When I talk to people about religion and atheism, there seem to be a lot of misconceptions of atheism. Therefore I will try to clear some of these misconceptions below.

1. "Isn't atheism just a religion, with a set of beliefs?"

Answer: Religion is a belief in and reverence for supernatural forces known as God or Gods. Simply put, atheism is just a LACK of belief in Gods because of LACK of empirical evidence. Atheists do not have a set of organised beliefs like religion does. Some atheists stand by evolution and big bang theory while some atheists do not. But what atheists have in common is the lack of belief in all Gods.

2. "Do atheists worship the devil?"

Answer: No we don't. Atheists lack belief in the existence of supernatural entities, and that includes angels.

3. "Atheists cannot prove that there is no God(s)."

Answer: Yes we cannot prove there is no God(s) because no one can prove a NEGATIVE! No one can prove something that has no traces of itself. Can you prove that there are no Unicorns flying around in space? There is a big difference between "there is no proof of any Gods" and "proving there is no god".

4. "Do atheists only lack belief in the Christian God?"

Answer: No, atheists lack belief in all Gods.

Alright. I hope I helped people understand more about atheism. Atheists are merely people who lack belief in supernatural entities. But if evidence proves otherwise, we would gladly explore the possibilities!

The Straits Times has run an article of the Mormon church in Singapore.

The Mormon church in Singapore recently held an open house to clear the air about their faith. Minister Teo Chee Hean was there for almost an hour to grace the occasion.

Their main aim is to tell mainstream christians (evangelicals, liberals, baptists, charasmatics, methodists, presbyterians, anglicans etc.) that they are NOT a cult.

I personally have heard MANY mainstream christians calling the Mormon church a cult. This is not only unkind but is also defaming the Mormon church.

To me, the Mormon church is not a cult.

It is just a different denomination under the huge umbrella of Christianity. There are thousands of denominations under Christianity with each denomination holding different beliefs on issues like baptism, person of jesus, tongues, healings, salvation, nature of resurrection and ascension, method of communion and more.

One of the main differences between the Mormon christians and other christians is that Mormon christians do not believe in the doctrine of trinity.

Mormons believe that jesus was the son of god who came and died for the sins of mankind but stop at calling jesus a god.

But at the end of the day, a group of people having different beliefs from you does not automatically make it a cult. A cult is one which will lean towards the doctrine of mass suicide.

And the Mormon church is obviously not a cult. In fact, the Mormon church population in Singapore has increased so much that they have a new building now.

Atheists are angry with the gods?

Why do christians always automatically assume that atheists (ex-christians) are angry with god and that's why we left the religion?

They are so wrong! We left the religion not because we are angry with some invisible man "up there". I LEFT because I could not agree with many things in the bible (errors, inconsistencies).

Evidence has convinced me that god(s) does not exist for now. And many ex-christians left the religion because of the same reason.

I am NOT angry with the christian god because to me, a supernatural and invisible entity does not exist. So it is not possible to be angry with someone who does not exist.

Also a lot of my christians friends believe that atheists believe in nothing just because we do not believe in gods and that we live very sad lives.

Not believing in gods does not make us sad people! We still believe in things - real things and real people. I believe in my family and friends, in the love and kindness of humankind. I believe the airplane and tv are real! I believe in doing things to my best capability!

Atheists are normal human beings who left their previous religion, not some immoral "demonic" people!

Not everyone has to believe in the bible or the jewish-christian god!

Many things seem glamourous when you don't have it.

When I was still young, I always thought business trips were full of glamour and style. Well LOTS of people think it's cool.

But we are all wrong.

It is far from glamourous. Sure you get a nice hotel room and you get ferried everywhere but there are also the long tiring meetings, lots of socialising-drinking, and you have to smile so much your face might get cramped up.

You can desire this and that. You want that glamourous thing. We want everything in the world. And when we get what we always wanted, we realise it is always not as good as we thought it to be.

More than often, we forget that we are happiest when we are contented with what we have right now.

Homosexuality and Religion

I was on a local forum recently and the hot topics of homosexuality and religion came up.

If you guys did not know, there is going to be an event held at Hong Lim Park today. And this event is to gather open-minded Singaporeans to raise awareness of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgender) community in Singapore. Yes it's Pink Dot Event 2011.

So the topic was about Pink Dot 2011 and some religious people started to post very negative comments about LGBT people.

They quoted their religious books and said that LGBT people would end up in hell and that LGBT people are useless and should never exist on this earth.

Some even go as far as saying that homosexuality is a disease and LGBT people should be "healed".

To the religious people, I have a few things to say --

1. Homosexuals are humans too and there is no need to post hateful comments or discriminate them.

2. Homosexuality is not a disease. There is ample of evidence pointing towards homosexuality being genetic. Even MM Lee and PM Lee acknowledged that homosexuality is most probably genetic and we should live and let live.

3. Homosexuality has always been around. It has been around way before Christianity, Islam or Judaism ever existed. Your colleague, superior, cousin, best friend, sister, brother or father might be a secret homosexual.

4. Religious views are PERSONAL OPINION and not universal truths. A Muslim's personal belief is Allah. A Christian's personal belief is Jesus. A Sikh's personal belief is his God. So a religious person should NOT enforce his religious views onto others.

5. And to the person who said that LGBT people would end up in hell - Jesus says to not judge, for those who judge would be in the pits of hell.

Actually there's nothing wrong in eating dog meat. We find it disgusting because of our culture.

It's like we find Westerners eating horses, snails and cats disgusting but it's totally normal to them.

Nightingale Nursing Home Abuse

I saw the recent video of staff from Nightingale Nursing Home abusing an elderly woman on Youtube.

And the first comment from a Youtube user was "They should not have sent their mother to the nursing home in the first place."

This user obviously has not grown up and has a very naive view of the world.

Some people are forced to send their mother to nursing homes because they have to work the whole day to foot the medical bills and are unable to care for their elderly parents at home.

And only nursing homes can provide good care for their elderly parents. Some people do not want to hire maids because nursing homes are more reliable.

Not everyone who sends their parents to nursing homes are ungrateful bastards. Some are COMPELLED to send them to nursing homes because that is the best option in their situation.

I was playing with a stray cat just now. It was a fat cat with black, brown spots.

It came up my tummy, lay down and started massaging my tummy.

So when I came back, I tried to find out what the "massaging" meant

.

And this is what I found out -

Pink Dot Event 2011 - Let's be aware of discrimination against homosexuals

Pink Dot Event 2011 is not a protest. It is Singaporeans gay, straight, bi, transgender gathering to help educate the public on the discrimination of homosexuals and transgenders in Singapore.

I personally think it is so much more important for straight people to attend this event to show that it is ok for gay/lesbian/transgender people to love too.

Last year, there was quite a number of straight people who attended to lend their support and it's really heart warming to see that.

Parents were there to support their gay children. Colleagues were there to support their lesbian friends. Some parents even brought their kids with them to bring across the point that it is wrong to discriminate gays, lesbians and transgenders.

Though I am not gay myself, I hope Singaporeans will stop viewing homosexuals as anything lesser than human beings. I hope Singaporeans will stop discriminating against them just because they are different.

Yes you might be uncomfortable because they are indeed different, but that does not mean we can justify our hate and bias.

Stop discrimination. Let them have the freedom to love.

Sometimes, all it takes is a bit of education and awareness.

This morning Straits Times had an article about SGH prohibiting christians from proselytizing (spreading their religion) within Singapore hospitals' compound.

For people from western countries, this might seem like an infringement of religious freedom and a shock to them because they live in a country where it's predominantly christian and that everyone is free to "express" his/her religion in any way.

But here in Singapore we are different. And here in Singapore, it is not right for christians or hindus or buddhists to go around hospitals trying to convert people.

Why?

Because Singapore is not a mono-culture country. Singapore is not like America or France, where MOST are white and christian. Singapore is also NOT like Taiwan where most Taiwanese are ethnic Chinese and taoist.

Singapore is made up of many different religions and many races and we live together in tight spaces. One wrong religious comment, one wrong religious argument, and we could all end up destroying each other.

In America, when there is a debate on religion, christians argue with christians and the differences are not too wide and damaging. At the end of the day, American christians can still say "Oh yes let's put our differences away because we are all still christians in Jesus."

However just imagine in Singapore if a christian offends a muslim and at the same time a hindu offends a muslim. There will be chaos. Now, it is not about ONE GOD and different perceptions. It's about MANY GODS and MANY different perceptions.

That is the difference.

So it is only right for Singapore public hospitals to PROHIBIT anyone from trying to spread their religion in their compound. A christian going around in the hospital evangelising might offend a dying buddhist's family members and things might go out of hand.

We don't want unnecessary religious conflicts here in multi-religious Singapore. I think here the key word is "RESPECT". Respect other religions.

Moreover, it isn't morally sound for someone to try to convert a dying and vulnerable patient.

That would be taking advantage of the patient when he/she isn't clear minded.

So if you're thinking about telling the dying and sick about your god/gods, please leave them alone to have some peace with their family members.

Some denominations of christians believe that their god will "take them up" or "suck them up" into the air to meet him in heaven, someday, somewhere.

And some of them believe god will do just that on May 21st 2011.

There are 2 things I want to say -

1. I don't believe any human being can be "sucked up the air", high up into the skies, into space and beyond the universe and then to a place called heaven. Sounds too science fiction and cartoonish.

2. May 21st 2011 is not going to be rapture day or doomsday. No. No one is going to disappear suddenly while driving their cars or doing their dishes. Everything will go on as normal on May 21st.

There have been MANY christian doomsday predictions before and all of them were wrong. This May 21st bullshit will be wrong too.

The expiry date on my canned tuna says "January 2015". So don't worry. LOL.

Praying for plane not to crash?

Yesterday, a Cathay airplane got into trouble when its engines caught fire and had to turn back to Changi Airport.

Passengers were so terrified they immediately prayed LOUDLY for their god to save them.

But it's quite strange to me because my christian friends always tell me that it's the best thing to die and be with their god in heaven. They tell me that being in heaven with god is an unimaginably amazing eternal experience.

And when the plane's crashing, suddenly all the passengers don't want to be with their god anymore?

Can anyone clairfy this stark contradiction?

I have been talking to some religious people on some forum and it's making me go crazy.

Some of the religious people are telling me that atheism is a religion and that atheists are just angry with the gods/god.

One needs to only read the definitions in the dictionary to know that that is absolutely rubbish.

The general definition of "atheist" is this - One who disbelieves or denies the existence of god or gods.

And the general definition of a "religious person" is this - A person who manifests devotion to a deity/deities.

Atheism is not a religion. Atheists simply deny the existence of gods (or any supernatural entities such as ghosts and fairies) due to lack of empirical evidence.

Atheists cannot be angry with god/gods because to us, these entities do not exist. So how can we be angry with something that does not exist?

Can you be angry with Superman or Santa Claus? Can one be angry with a Fairy Godmother?

So to say that atheism is a religion is like saying NOT playing football is a sport. Makes sense? No!

Priority Seats

An old man by the name of Jason Wang posted this photo online of a young man who refused to give up the "priority" seat to him. Ok, well the young man was being inconsiderate. But Mr Wang, why can't you be gracious and kind enough not to take his photo without his permission? And when you post his photo and subject him to tremendous shame, how kind are you as a human being?

And as if the damage was not enough when he posted it online, Jason Wang went on to email this photo to the young man's company, SMRT and the newspaper.

Jason Wang, you were out to make him suffer a hell lot and that does not speak very well of your own character. Gracious and kind? Pui!

A take on Priority Seats in our MRT

Everyone has the right to sit on the Priority Seat. Young, old, fat, thin, man, woman, pregnant, child, adult, whatever. But when a young healthy person sees someone who needs the seat more, then please give the seat up.

Yes and young people who do not give up seats to the needy are inconsiderate.

BUT WAIT. There are EXCEPTIONS. Sometimes, the sleeping young person on the seat is GENUINELY tired after a hard day's work. Or probably the young person offered his seat to the "needy person" but he/she rejected the offer.

So don't assume ANYTHING when you see a young person sitting at the "Priority Seat".

If need be, ask him why he's not giving up his seat to the "needy person" instead of secretly taking his photograph and posting it up on stupid websites like STOMP.

And I am voting for the first time. I am so EGG-cited! Voting is important because ultimately the power goes back to the people.

I saw someone I used to hang out with post this statement on Facebook -- He said "As for me, it's Romans 13 and the phrase, 'Don't bite the hand that fee

ds you'."

As you could have guessed, this person is a supporter of the PAP and implied that we should not be "ungrateful" towards PAP which has brought Singapore to where she is today.

I am sorry, mixing religion with politics is just wrong. Also, CLOUDING your vote decision with your religion also distorts a lot of facts.

When we use our religion to vote, we vote blindly. We vote whoever is from our religion. For example. If I am a Buddhist, I vote for Buddhist candidates only. This is just wrong. We cannot allow our religion to cloud our judgement. Yes I am a Buddhist but if this Buddhist candidate sucks, then I will NOT vote for him.

I rather vote for a Hindu or Muslim candidate who can understand the people and deliver his promises.

So don't mix your religion with politics. It's a poison. Look at America. They only vote for Christian presidents no matter how good a Muslim/Hindu candidate can be.

Let's not be like them. Let us be sane.

When I think of fairytale, I think of unicorns, dragons, flying characters like angels, demons and monsters or even elves! I think of animals that can talk e.g. talking donkey or goat.

The Youth Olympic Games seems to be a very BIG thing for the world and Singapore.

Well, I think it is quite a big thing for Singapore but is it really a BIG thing for the world?

Just take a look at the international press and you will know if it's really an important event, judging by its coverage.

As of today, international media coverage of the YOG is minimal. I am not talking about Singapore media. Of course Singapore media will blow it up and report on it almost everyday. But if we read newspapers or websites from all the other countries in the world, this supposedly "international" event isn't so important as to make it to their newspapers or news channel.

If you have PAYTV at home, watch the international news channel. None of them are really talking about the YOG. I guess YOG, compared to the real Olympics or World Cup, is like a children's sports carnival on the world stage.

So in reality, the Youth Olympics Games is not a very significant event on the world stage, yet. Moreover, if you watch the crappy show The Noose, you will realise many Singaporeans interviewed do not even know about YOG. Well, we don't give a fucking hoot.

Anti-abortion?

This kind of photo is always used by anti-abortion people to stimulate negative emotions towards abortion, to push their anti-abortion agenda.

But don't be fooled by your emotions and don't fooled by them.

Abortion is not entirely wrong in some cases. And of course abortion is NOT murder, as anti-abortion people always claim. Murder is the "unlawful killing of one human by another, especially with premeditated malice".

A fetus is not human as long as it is in the womb, just as a papaya seed is NOT a papaya.

Whether abortion is "right" or "wrong" (nothing in this world is absolute anyway) depends on the circumstance.

Let's take for example a situation whereby a woman is being raped and she gets pregnant.
Does she not have the right to abort the fetus?

Yes she has EVERY right to do it. She would not want to live with the fetus and the horror of the rape for 9 months and the rest of her life. Therefore, let us give her the right to abort. Give her the choice to abort. The fetus is PART of her body and she has the right to decide what to do with her body.

Then there are cases of unexpected and unwanted pregnancies. The woman might be too young or financially incapable of raising a kid. Probably for her, the best option out of the worst scenario would be to abort the fetus.

Also with modern technology, women know in advance whether their child would be severely handicapped (missing limbs, severe retardation, missing organs). So they have the choice to abort or allow the fetus to be born and suffer for the rest of his life.

So I guess I am not pro-abortion per se, but I am pro-choice. Choice. Let the women decide for themselves. They know best because their bodies and finances are involved.
They know best because they are in that situation, not you and I.

I felt sad when I read the blog. This friend of mine, (well used to be a friend, now no longer in contact) is just so caught up with beliefs and religion that he/she is losing him/herself.

We should be like dogs

After knowing my friend's dog for more than a year, I really think there are many things we can learn from a dog.

- Always waiting for the owner to come back home.

- After getting scolded, doesn't hold grudges. Instead jumps over to you excitedly the next minute

- Doesn't bite you or fight back when being scolded. Walks away quietly

- Waits patiently and quietly for the next "play time"

- Looks at the owner longingly and lovingly, no matter when, no matter what

- Cuddles up to the owner when the owner is sad or angry

- Just listening intently and never giving an opinion when the owner talks to it

Dogs.

Why can't we just behave like a dog sometimes?

WE ALWAYS have to

- complain why our wife/husband comes home late

- hold grudges and seek revenge and go into cold war mode after an argument

- fight, shout and retort

- always asking for more time, more attention and more of what we want

- looks at people with bias

- be too busy to accompany our loved ones when they're down

Walking into freedom - Why I left the religion

I still remember the time when I decided that I didn't want to be a Christian anymore.
Man it was a tough 2 years.

Prior to that, I was in church for about 6 years, serving "mightily and passionately" for a god I thought I loved. I thought I believed in him and I prayed, worshipped and spent most of my time in church.

But after 6 years in church, I began to question my own beliefs. Well, at times I think I did it in a very rash and inappropriate way. Some things I shouldn't have done, some things I should have done. But well, I questioned my own faith and beliefs for one year.

And I decided Christianity wasn't for me. Why?

1. I couldn't agree with many parts of the bible.

2. Much of what was taught to me by my church leaders did not flow with my personal moral values and the values taught to me by my parents from young. (e.g teaching that other religions are false, neglecting my family because service to church was priority)

And so I left church and the religion, not without trouble though. People said stuff. They gossiped, talked and insulted me. Well I wasn't innocent too. I did the same. My church "friends" became my adversaries when they heard about my deconversion and about how I challenged the bible.

It wasn't just about my church "friends" who turned against me.

Then there was my Christian mom to deal with. To make matters worse, I was the one who converted her earlier. And so when I deconverted, I pretended to go to church for 2 months every Saturday. I would go out with friends or go to another church to avoid too much suspicion.

Then after 2 months, I thought enough was enough and one fine night, I kind of ranted to my mom about how I don't believe in Christianity and Jesus anymore.

Initially, she couldn't accept it but I kept reminding her that most of her very own siblings are non-Christians and they are also capable, successful and kind. As time passes, she kind of got it. She understood that everyone has different beliefs, different religions and not everyone must believe in Jesus.

I felt free.

And today I am still free.

This whole deconversion episode has brought out 2 good things - I know who my true friends are and I have more time with my family now.

Do I have a problem with Christians now?

No.

Am I still angry with my exchurch people? No. I admit I was still angry up to the beginning of this year. But now? No.

I have a wonderful and extremely caring Christian cousin. I have some wonderful Christian friends who live and let live.

I just find some of them extremely distasteful.

Those that are intolerant, insensitive, narrow-minded and cannot see the past the fact that I am never going to be a Christian anymore. Ugh, just makes me so thankful I am not with their pack anymore.

Last Saturday's Straits Times did a few pages of feature about Megachurches VS Small churches in Singapore.

Megachurch - 2000 members and above

I can do a personal summary of the article -

1. Megachurches and small churches in Singapore are apparently fighting for each other's "sheep".

Are churches in Singapore snatching each other's sheep?

2. Of recent years, there has been an increase in the number of small churches BUT the number of Christians in Singapore has not grown significantly. This shows that many churches might be splitting.

3. Most of the time, Singapore small churches split because of doctrine issues, space and in attempts to attract more members.

4. "Doing Church" in Singapore has basically evolved into "Doing Business" over the years. It's basically a business of who has more members, more sound and music equipment, more tithes and offerings, more outreaches and publicity.

Churches big or small in Singapore are trying to gain more members with state-of-the-art sound and light systems (image from city harvest)

5. Small churches in Singapore are struggling to stay afloat because many of their members are church-hopping to churches with better sound and music equipment, lights and more comfortable service halls.

6. Megachurches in Singapore are growing at the expense of other churches.

7. Revenue of senior pastors in some megachurches are ridiculously high - a few million of dollars per year

8. On one hand, small churches criticise megachurches in Singapore for going after riches and prosperity. On the other, pastors of megachurches in Singapore criticise small churches of being out of touch. There is an ongoing doctrinal fight between megachurches and small churches in Singapore

9. I don't give a damn about whether you're a megachurch or small church. Just don't try tear down other religions in Singapore.

My brother and I were talking about intelligent life out of our solar system and the high possiblilty of the existence of aliens outside our solar system.

There really is a high possiblity of other forms of intelligent life out there.

There are millions of stars in our milky way alone and BILLIONS of planets in other planetary systems. So the probability of other forms of life is high.

Well, I think for us humans, as much as we pride ourselves in our technology, we still cannot venture beyond our own solar system. We are just not "high-tech" enough.

If they find us first, then we are doomed because their technology is obviously much more advanced than ours.

And if these aliens are searching for another habitable planet, then we are doomed. At that point, even praying to all the gods would not help us at all.

Why do I say that?

Because every part of the pig is being used. And I mean EVERY part. Almost.

Pig meat, basically pork (pork chop, BBQ pork, roasted pork etc)

Pig skin (below, fried skin sold in China)

Pig brain (below tonic pig brain soup)

Pig intestines, stomach (with black sauce)

Pig heart

Pig ears

Pig tail

Pig lungs

Pig liver (with soup or stir fried)

Whole pig (below, used in Chinese wedding dinners

and as an offering to Chinese gods and some places in Europe)

Pig trotters

Pig lard (for seasoning)

A group of physicists and scientists recently came up with a few ways to destroy the earth. Below is a list -

Putting the earth in between 2 black holes -

Black holes, as we all know, suck in everything in its path. Even light and sound cannot escape its wrath. Put the earth in between 2 black holes and all of us will be torn apart and destroyed. But don't worry, the nearest black hole is 1600 light years away!

The solar system loses its gravitational forces and Mars crashes into earth -

Most of the earth would be smashed into pieces. The earth would also be ignited into flames from the impact. Even before the impact, most living things and infrastructure would have been destroyed by the pull of the 2 planets. Waves will rise to monstrous heights because of the gravitational pull of Mars. Be prepared, we'll die a horrible death. Well, for your information, earth did collide with another planet when it was first formed. Horrible. Earth was almost destroyed a few billions years ago, but well, it survived.

This is interesting. Imagine what happens when you're on a bus and the bus suddenly brakes to a stop. Everything flies forward. The earth spins at 107278km/h but we don't feel it because we are just too small. You don't really feel the aeroplane moving too when its flying right. So if earth suddenly stops, wind resistance, inertia and friction will d

estroy everything and reduce everything into ash. Buildings will crumble into fragments and we will just disintegrate.

Hurling the earth into our mighty Sun -

Even before impact, everything melts. Everything disintegrates. We know why. The Sun is just too hot. Just the outermost layer of the Sun, it's already 6000 degrees celsius. Water evaporates right before our eyes as we approach the Sun, even when we are very very very far away.

I have been thinking about this.

Some people always say humans are more special and that we are smarter than beasts and animals.

Some of us say we are so smart, our brains are so much bigger than the animals and that we are capable of ADVANCED technology, (note that animals are capable of basic technology too) education and many other things.

Simple technology

Personally, I so wish we HAD a special touch too. But this just isn't the case. We aren't special or smarter.

In fact, our so-called "intelligence" is going to bring upon our own destruction.

We have become so "smart" at technology and making use of the earth's resources, we are now over-using the earth's resources and destroying it at a very fast pace.

So now are we really that smart?

It's like a machine that has spiralled out of control. And we and our brains are out of control. We develop, build and build and build and build and burn and burn more and more trees for our papers, burn more fuel for our bug buildings and in the end, we might become extinct much faster than any other species on earth.

The dinosaurs did not have advanced technology. They did not need cars, roads or buildings and they had smaller brains relatively. They led a simple life. They came, ate, hunted, lived, grew, multiplied and died and yet they lived for millions of years.

Human civilisation - 10,000 years old. And we are already destroying ourselves.

Smart? Special?

I don't think so. Can we even run faster than a horse?

Can we even survive in the wild and outsmart the leopard?

Or in this case, a bloody, fat hippo?

In Singapore, the number of girls going for plastic surgery (be it face, breasts, or butt) is increasing, according to an interview aired on Channel News Asia today.

Plastic surgery is an interesting topic. Some say plastic surgery is bad because we should be happy with what we have. Some say plastic surgery is good because it can help a woman (or evey man) with her self-esteem and thus become a better person.

The surgeon interviewed was saying that technology is so advanced that girls nowadays can ask for specific shapes of breasts, not just increase volume.

He was also commenting that if plastic surgery helps a person feel better, then why not?

I personally agree with him. Plastic surgery or aesthetic change is basically just a change/correction/restoration to a part of the body form or function.

So going by this definition, putting braces, coloring of hair, losing weight and lyposuction are also processes that change the way we look to make ourselves feel better.

So why not? If you can wear braces, pluck out a few teeth to look better, why be against someone who goes under the knife and changes his nose bridge? Just because it's "under the knife"?

Then some other people will say that plastic surgery is dangerous and some people get deformed faces after that. Well, don't ALL surgeries have risks? And if he is a qualified, professional surgeon, there is no need for worry.

Bottomline, I think plastic surgery is like makeup or coloring of hair - changing the way we look to feel better, to look better.

I think society changes now and then and we need to re-evaluate what's acceptable and what's not.

Feral Children

I recently learned about feral children. They are children who are either grow up without the care of human parents OR grow up under the care of animals like wolves, monkeys etc.

These children have been found in jungles living with animals and when they are found, most of them behave like animals, growling, barking, going on all fours and cannot understand the human language.

So far, of all the recent cases I read, there seem to be one authentic case.

Lyokha was found in the jungles of Russia with wolves. He had very long claw-like nails, sharp teeth (because of eating raw meat) and moved about with his legs half-bent. He even snarled and

A Good Night's Sleep

To have a good night's sleep, there are few things you can do -

1. Make sure your bed is big enough cos' you don't want to have to keep worrying about falling out of your bed throughout the night.

2. Drink milk. Because milk contains essential amino acids and one of the acids is sleep-inducing TRYPTOPHAN. Tryptophan is also found in turkeys. So drink a glass of milk on an empty stomach 1 hour before you sleep!

3. Read a book. Get yourself tired physically and mentally so you can sleep. I used to read a VERY boring and wordy book just to get myself to sleep! Try it!

4. Make sure your room is dark, especially from computer screens and small lights. Lights can confuse the body clock and result in bad sleep.

5. Meditate. Before sleeping, meditate. Sit still, crossed leg and free your mind. Stretch a bit. Meditation helps to calm the mind before you sleep. So it really helps if you feel stressed out!

So there you go! There are many ways to have a good night's sleep. Sleep is important especially in Singapore where it's such a bustling, busy city!

By the way...

EVERY documentary on Discovery Channel, National Geographic, History Channel tells us that the earth is 4.5 billion years old. So I really wonder why some people claim it's 6000 years old. Let the experts and scientists do their job. They are trained to find out the age.

Regarding Jack Neo's sex scandal case, really, we should just forgive him and move on. After all, we would all look like hypocrites if we start accusing him of being immoral.

When it comes to cheating, it's really a matter of whether the guy is exposed or not because we all know that Jack Neo is NOT the only guy who has cheated on his wife.

MANY (if not most) guys do cheat on their partners/girlfriends/wives, just that most guys are pretty good at covering up their tracks.

Really, I am not justifying infidelity or cheating. What I am saying is, though not acceptable publicly, cheating has been quite common ever since the start of human civilisation.

It's really a matter of whether the guy's deeds are exposed or not.

A "good" and "down-to-earth" guy might be cheating all his life, but might never be exposed because he's good at hiding, while a guy who cheated once or twice might be exposed because he is a celebrity.

So really, let the one who has no shortcomings be the first to accuse Jack Neo of being immoral.

After all, we all have our dirty secrets. AGAIN I say, it's just a matter of whether YOUR dirty deeds are exposed or not.

You can look like you're so clean on the outside or you might be the one going around exposing people's mistakes, but in the end, you might just be the biggest, dirtiest criminal around.

Platypus - the evidence for macro-evolution

The platypus is an Australian semi-aquatic duck-billed, furry mammal that lay eggs. Interesting? Wait and I thought mammals don't lay eggs??

Answer - Evolution.

The platypus IS A MAMMAL because it produces milk, feeds the young with milk, has hair, is warm-blooded.

But the interesting thing is the platypus lays eggs!

Why?

Because evidence show that mammals descended from reptiles (which lay eggs), and the platypus has retained this reptilian egg-laying characteristic from our reptilian ancestors. Egg laying is a primitive reproduction method passed down from mammal-like reptiles 300 million years ago.

The platypus split from other mammals at least 166 million years ago.

This early split means the platypus genes carry important information from a transitional point on the evolutionary line leading from reptiles to mammals and it retains some characteristics from its reptilian ancestors.

Asteroid killed them

Scientists have been arguing about how the dinosaurs became extinct.

But today it's official - An asteriod 15km wide slammed into earth and wiped out the magnificent creatures 65 million years ago. (By the way, the earth isn't 6000 years old like some people claim it to be)

A panel of 41 scientists from across the world reviewed 20 years' worth of research and have come to this conclusion.

As of today, there is enough evidence to prove that a huge asteriod slammed into earth about 65 million years ago, sending debris into the atmosphere, blocking out sunlight and creating massive earthquakes.

"We now have great confidence that an asteroid was the cause of the KT extinction. This triggered large-scale fires, earthquakes measuring more than 10 on the Richter scale, and continental landslides, which created tsunamis," said Joanna Morgan of Imperial College London, a co-author of the review.

Because the dinosaurs became extinct, this event allowed the mammals (humans including) to rise up, evolve and eventually to dominate the earth.

The other argument for the extinction was volcanic activity in India that lasted for 1.5 million years. But this argument had many loopholes.

So it's official - Asteroid collision with earth was the cause of the dinosaurs' extinction!

why do some people assume that partying weekends away always leaves us empty? Lol. Ridiculous generalization and assumption. Yes, some people do feel like losers after partying but not all. Humans are all different.

You might feel empty and lost and weak after clubbing because of your own experience but not everyone is as emotional and weak like you so please don't generalize like you know the whole world, goodness!

For one,I feel relaxed after a night of healthy partying!

Partying/Nightlife is an entertainment and lifestyle, promoted on books, newspapers, magazines and travel guide books, as long as you know your limits. It isn't as evil as you think it is. Maybe in the 90s partying was associated with drugs and sex and fights but generally it isn't the case anymore :)

A rare deer was knocked down recently beside Mandai Road. I didn't know there are deers around in Singapore still!

It's called a Sambar Deer. Vets from the Zoo decided to put it to sleep as it was suffering. Bless the poor animal!

Amazing. Experts say there might be up to 20 of such deers in 100% urbanised Singapore, in little pockets of natural reserves.

Some people say lying isn't good and no one should lie.

I think we should beg to differ. This world is about a balance. Sometimes we HAVE to lie, and white lies might just save the day.

During World War 2, MANY Europeans had to hide Jews in their homes. When German soldiers came knocking on their doors in search of Jews, they had to LIE that they were not hiding any Jews.

I am someone who really hate liars and I personally try my best not to lie.

The New Caledonian Crows are the only species that invent new tools using existing tools.

These crows can make HOOKS out of twigs and then holding them with their beaks, dig out worms and insects from dead logs.

The other species that use tools are the primates.

For example, gorillas are known to use bottles to store water when in captivity.

Chimpanzees also use twigs to dig out insects, but they do not create hooks like the clever crows do.

So the next time you think we are cleverer than animals, think again. We use tools yes, but they do it too.

We build planes to fly, birds fly freely using their own wings. Many birds even have an in-built radar in them.

We build cars to travel fast but wildebeests, zebras and many herbivores can cover long distances without the use of any sort of engines. Cheetahs and horses can outrun a car.

We build computers and technology to help ourselves with our daily lives.

The animals?

They rely on their instincts and they survive just as well!

Moral values? See how a mother lion cares for her cubs. See how a mother buffalo protects her calf. And then see how humans backbite each other.

Are we better than them? Not really, if you think about it. We are equal.

I find Greek Mythology really intriguing. There are so many gods and goddesses, it's a bit like Taoism and Chinese Mythology. There's Zeus, the King of all gods, Poseidon, the God of the Seas, Hades Ruler of Hell, Heras, Apollo, God of Music etc.

I wonder how many churches actually speak against other religions in their services?

Because of Pastor Rony Tan, Lighthouse is now removing any offensive videos/sermons that are in their archives.

6 years ago, I brought a Taoist friend to the church I was attending. (I no longer attend church) He was quite looking forward to it because he was quite curious.

But he left angrily at the end of the service and vowed to me that he will never return to any church.

Why?

Because that very day, the pastor of that service criticised Taoism and mocked at my friend's religion.

And my friend has not stepped into a church till today.

I really hope after the Pastor Rony Tan's case, pastors will really review their sermons, teach their sheep to respect other religions and guide their members to a more holistic view of the world, not a narrow-minded view.

National Geographic is showing a series about Evolutions in February. We have been told that dinosaurs are extinct but are they really extinct? Are there species of them living amongst us today? Be sure to catch it. And rest assured, Nat Geo wouldn't show things that are nonsensical.

Archaeopteryx fossil - Archaeopteryx is a transitional species between dinosaurs and birds. Because it displays a number of features common to both birds and dinosaurs, Archaeopteryx has often been considered a link between them. Just because you don't understand evolution, doesn't mean it's not factual.

Anyway...

The first day of CNY this year is a very different one.

No VISITATIONS! First time in 25 years of my life. So instead, my family and I went to town, 313, coffee bean to slack and chill!

I tell you, my Mom started talking to us about the "clubs" in the past. They were called nightclubs then. And my brother, sister and I also updated her about how clubs are like these days. She was quite impressed when we told her there are security guards in clubs nowadays.

And she started telling us how they would go up on guys' cars for a spin just like that.

Laughed quite a bit with my siblings. Well no visitations but had a really good time with my family.

Tomorrow will be watching lion and dragon dance at my aunt's place. Well well.

I made a few Aunty friends recently.

And both told me that marriages do not work these days. One of them told me it's better to cohabit with your partner first and find out all his/her flaws before deciding on any marriage.

She said "Learn from the westerners."

I think there's some good point in what she said.

I know of an ang moh couple who stayed together for 20 years, has kids but never got "married". Never went to the Registry of Marriage and never had any certificate or ceremonies.

What for we ask? Afterall marriages bind you legally and causes a lot of unnecessary tensions.

Why not stay together first, find out more about each other, and if it works out, have kids? What is in a certificate or ceremony?

What is in a marriage when there are so many divorce cases?
